Last Days Are Lovely

My teaching journey is coming to an end and I am pretty bummed out that I will be leaving beautiful Tallos in less than 24 hours. My host family has been remarkable and the community has been very heartwarming. Its amazing that I left Michigan six weeks ago and now I am less than 10 days from arriving back to the Great Lake State.

(Class at the Castle)

Last week, like the past, has been pretty packed. When I arrived back to Prague, we went to the local soccer match to see Tallos take on a rival community. It was a great game, but we lost in the final 20 seconds of stoppage time. (The community was pretty upset until Tuesday.) On Monday, I visited the Tallos Castle with some of my students and then spent the afternoon at the Gabčíkovo Dam, which was constructed in 1977 between Czechoslovakia and Hungary to prevent floods. It also is a hydro plant for the local area. Later in the evening, we traveled to Ridge's pad for Goulash Party 3. And that night my massive head cold started. I basically had a mild fever and was massively congested until this afternoon, but everyone's great spirits kept me going strong.

On Tuesday I had class and our family had Ridge's family over for dinner for Fish soup. And not to be outdone, Ridge and I hosted our families and other friends on Wednesday for a good ole dinner. That included his famous Jambalya; my grandmother's mac and cheese; jalapeno cheese cornbread and coleslaw. This all fed about 15 people. (We made cheesecake too, but I managed to burn it.)

(Dinner for the Fams)

And today is my last day in Tallos. I have been told that they are making a large party, which includes Goulash for about 40 people. I imagine there will be spirits and during class the children were acting funny, so perhaps they will have some homemade gifts.

P.S. I made a video that I hope to upload soon. I think you will all find it pretty amusing.

Now I am off to Vienna tomorrow with Ridge and then To Turkiye on Saturday to visit Demirhan. (It has been five years!)
